B is for Betsy

I got the nicest email from Elaine today! She said she is very happy with the 12" EFA I made for our swap! Hurray! I really struggled with this doll. She said the doll reminded her of a character in an old book of hers called B is for Betsy so now the doll's name is Betsy! It suits her and pleases me! I thought I had a close up of her face in my files, but can't seem to find it. Perhaps Elaine will take some photos too that I can save. Of course, after getting her email, I had to go to Amazon and order a copy of this book. It has wonderful reviews and what's really neat is that while it was written in 1939, it is still being reprinted even today! I opted for one of the early editions and I can't wait to read it!

One other thing, I don't know if I've mentioned this before. The tiny EFA that Elaine made for me bears a striking resemblance to my mother! I know that sounds crazy- she's just a teeny, tiny doll with embroidered features, but she really looks like my mom! Even Carmen saw it and I didn't prompt her! That's why I've named that little doll Audrey after my mom. And you know what my mom's middle name was? Elaine!

So thank you, Elaine, for a very satisfying doll swap!

  1. When I was a little girl I "lived" in the Betsy books! My very favorite was Betsy's Little Star, about Betsy's little sister named Star. The pictures are so charming-you will love this book! Your doll is sooo sweet! Love her! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!~Annie

  7. That's funny about EFA and your mom because I have always thought that the standard EFA face looks just like my mother!

Several months ago when Sirkis last came up on the VCD list, someone MaryC (?) pointed out the location of some Sirkis dolls in the VCD photos. I don't know if they were in Show & Tell or elsewhere. Anyway, a couple of colonials and a really cute girl doll. You will love the Wishbooks. I have been trying to avoid adding anymore To Dos to my list but I think we should all pick a Wishbook and get cracking.
